A 3 hour City Get Away trip to Perdik Waterfall

Never have I imagine a short weekend trip could be so much refreshing than any oversea trip. Reason being is everything is under control and within my comfort.

Girlfriend planned the trip with ex-colleagues/ friends in email and I was in CC list.
Turn up was great. With 10 YOUNG adults and 2 kids. We're ready to roll.
Driving our own cars with Garmin GPS and Walkie Talkie make us feel so much secured.
On the way back, we still can enjoy our faviourite HONG HONG Yong Tau Foo!

As for point #3, some drivers just find it unnecessarily because 1 "dunno" how to use Talkie, and another fear to enter rocky roads. "I said press and talk, this fella keep Press and put talkie on His Ear and Talk." LoL... your ear just cannot talk and the talkie is suppose to put in front of your lips. OK?

Malaysia is a fantastic place for travelers especially when you're with your clique. The journey was alright until one point I've make all cars convoyed behind me panicked. I made a wrong turn near Taman Connaught where I suppose to take middle lane, the stupid GPS navigator keep saying "In 750 meter, keep left and turn left." So I did what GPS told when I actually saw the Green Sign board pointing to Lebuhraya Cheras / Kajang highway.

From there on, my talkie kept silence until the last car (loaded with 5 adults 2 kids - kononnya 7 seaters) went missing when we are cruising at the 17 kilometers stretch from Taman Suntex to Kampung Kuala Perdik.

When we're approaching to Kg. Kuala Perdik, we have been searching for the signboard saying "Perdik Fall" or "Hutan Lipur" as mentioned in 1 of the reference blog site here. We couldn't find any clue and we're started like Motor Hunting, making U-Turns to search for the right junction. (Guys, if you are planning to drive there as well, look for Lembah Pangsun Eco Resort signboard. Enter that Left junction)

From there, we drove in further to meet another friend (the fear factor driver of point #3). Since we have 4 cars, we parked 2 cars at the Eco Resort and drove in to the dead end. I mean we must passed the rocky roads and bridges till the very end of the road.

The driving itself took 45min to an hour inclusive of searching. We need to park our cars, 2 car park lot away after the rocky road, and started walking about 5 min until we saw "Hutan Lipur Hulu Perdik". (Be smart where to park next time.)

The jungle trekking trail is quite challenging. Imagine we have 2 kids coming along. Crossing 3 rivers and some came with Slippers, long pants and plastic bags. We all just head straight, follow the previous walk path all the way 45 minutes up to the Perdik Waterfall. It's worth the time and effort.

The Mobile Operators in Malaysia differentiate each other network by a very simple method, i.e. the Prefix of the your Mobile Phone Number (technically call, MSISDN, pronounced as "Miss Din" -- haha... got to know this in one my project here). Now DiGi (50216 above) or commonly known as 016 (Zero One Six) or the famous "Yellowman Company" has 3G network.

I did a manual network search from my Maxis Broadband modem. And now as customer we have 4 choices of Mobile Internet Surfing via 3G network. Let's just hope the price war starts soon.

Another note, I've been like MIA from blogsphere like so damn long and now everyone I noticed lately every friend's blog been up to date. Feel so outdated myself.

Windows Live Writer... really that good?

Well guys. It's really been sometime I write something here, at my own blog. Gods knows I'm just like anyone, most of us out there, fighting till the very last minute on Friday to get a good nice rest during the long weekend, plus one more day holiday (thanks to Wesak day fall on Monday).

This weekend had been quite fruitful for myself. Spent enough time for myself and loved one instead of wasting them on the road or checking emails, chatting and surfing the net aimlessly. Details about that, maybe I'll post in the next entry. For now, some "techie" I just discovered from Windows Live website, www.live.com.

While I was teaching my "very da best buddy" about sending email from his desktop with photos attached, I taught him to download the Live Mail from website above. And to my surprise, I thought Windows/ Microsoft web site would have the best organization, layout and easy to find info web design, my friend had been cursing the website "LPPL" all the way but finally got himself the software for Live Mail from "get.live.com". (really, Get a Life bro!)

So, half way through when my friend setting up the Live Mail, he tried so many times to send me some pretty girls photo to my other email, "sharksss" My phone kept ringing like mad. It's like a Tech Support for live for my friend there. As usual, I would do what an IT fella would do normally - Download a copy of the software, same version and simulate the problem. Simple right? Yup, it's peanuts for me. You see, I can quickly send an Photo Email to my friend and he's impressed.

Of course, not about the Live Mail he was impressed about. It's the content!

To my amazement, I found something quite nice from this Windows Live download - I've got this Windows Live Writer which I can write and post web blogs to BLOGSPOT easily.

Yet to see the result of this post but I strongly believe its got to be better than Multiply's cross posting feature which mess up the whole HTML codes. Alright, that's all from here. Please comment if this post happen to be nicely updated. Good night!

Bloggers warned of price to pay

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government's policy from the start has been not to intervene in the use of the Internet by people, including bloggers, who are free to use cyberspace to do "proper things", said Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

However, the Umno vice-president said that if irresponsible bloggers go overboard in their Internet postings, the Government would be forced to step in.

"If they go overboard and insult, slander and break the laws, they will not get away scot-free. No one is above the law.

"Whether in the alam maya (cyberworld) or the alam nyata (physical world), people cannot simply write whatever they want, especially if it touches on religion, culture, the Rulers' position or the Constitution. These will be monitored," he said.

The opposition parties were also free to set up their own websites and blogs, but the same rule applied to them, he added.

"We are a democratic country but it does not mean that anyone can do whatever they want, including break the laws.

"For postings that insult (religion and the King), there are laws that can be used against the culprits," said Muhyiddin, who is also Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister, after launching the four-day Malaysia International Machinery Fair 2007 at the Putra World Trade Centre yesterday.

On another matter, he said the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority would begin a pilot project with the setting-up of two design and packaging centres in Sik, Kedah, and Pagoh, Perak.

The centres would act as a common facility for small- and medium-scale operators who could not afford to buy their own machines.

They could use the machines there to package their products as well as place barcodes and brand names on their products, he said.

"A minimal fee will be imposed. They can also get advice on how to repackage their products and even purchase machines," he said.

Muhyiddin said many small- and medium-scale operators, including those who sold kerepek (crackers), had no capital to buy machines, which could greatly help them package their products, as well as expand their business.

"So, they have to stick to the old method, which is tedious and inefficient," he said, adding that more centres would be set up around the country to benefit those in the rural areas.

Having said and done. I have been going rounds checking new cars which is within our budget, below RM100,000. I believe some of us also doing the same as well. Why? Latio - A different view (Part 1 - Sedan)

Well, I would like to start view from the Back of the Latio Sedan (ST-L), which also mean 1.6Litre - Premium spec. This is Gold color displayed in the showroom. People like me will take time to get used to the Rear view of this car. a bit weird I know. Some says looks like Peugeot, some says BMW 730 series. Just a different view.

Silver trims. I so particular about this. This nice trim only available in Sedan version. As I have no chance to view the actual Latio Sport, I would assume Sport version don't have this trim. (Geraaammmm)

Front Compartment. Just to make sense for everyone, I've just throw in the A4 size brochure/ price list into the compartment. I think you can imagine the compartment can easily fit few notebooks, paper or computer inside with out problem. And that's Big and Deep!

7-spoke alloy rims. Well, that's not what I'm looking at. It's a BRIDGESTONE tires! Hooraaaay!!! I always trust Bridgestone tires because they are affordable and quiet on road.

Now, this is another thing that Latio Sport don't have. Silver color Front Grille. ... Well, just cosmetic only. But I do mind.

What's Under the Hood, Ma? Not the engine I'm looking at, that's the heat/ sound insulator for your engine loading area. Isn't that a common thing which others should be given by default? Fortunately, Latio Sedan has it.

Under the hood... for real...
If I snap this photo correctly, what you see here, and which I guess the closest competitor to Nissan, i.e. Vios & City & even Civic, do not have. The engine is made of All Aluminum Alloy.

Do you see what I mean? I was driving alone back from KLCC office and keep thinking what to eat for dinner. Out of sudden, I remember this lovely Cucumber Juice at Taman Desa. Wah... Immediately I floored the accelerator from KLCC > Jln Tun Razak > SMART Tunnel > PJ Exit > Enter Taman Desa less than 15min.
(thanks to SMART, its really smooth)

This is the Cucumber Juice that I would die for. It could taste like any fruit juice but this is just so cooling and nice. It's nice when they served in this small glass.

So, who's fault was it? (Don't worry Prakash, it wasn't you.. haha). It was my ex-boss, not Dalvin either. My first company ex-boss. He's going to be a father soon and the wife is operating a drawing class at Subang. Anyway, I think I never have a banana leaf like ages when I started my first job (year 2000). Its not that famous at my hometown though... but I do use hands to "makan" at home sometimes. That's why my colleagues like surprise I could use hands to eat lunch at Indian shop... (hehe)...

As usual I order their fried fish, which comes with some Sambal chili sour sauce. Yeewww... that's hot.

Then I finished my vege, refilled with more vege (it's FREE anyway).... But I was hungry for vege all the sudden.
For papadom and chips lovers, particularly I love the fried Bitter Gourd here. Its very crisp and delicious. I remembered I tapao just the bitter gourd and cucumber juice once... (hehe... madness)

After all the food, its time to enjoy my Cucumber Juice. Guys, believe me... it tasted just nice and cooling. Not too sweet too. The last act in all indian food shop is the closure. Now, this is something I learn from my colleagues. Fold the leave towards you means the food is okay, and if its folded outward, its time to leave the shop... (otherwise all macha waiting at entrance)

Oh ya... so why its my ex-boss fault? Actually no ones fault lah.... simply je... He's a nice guy, learn a lot from him and I'm so fortunate to have 2 nice bosses in my career life. Dalvin, you're the best so far... I love you, Dalvin

Tuaran Mee

Another dish that I like to introduce here, this is called Tuaran Mee. So what's Tuaran. It is a place located in Sabah. If you were to drive from Kota Kinabalu, just head north and you'll see Tuaran road sign.

What's so special about this Dish? Look at the shrimps and noodles. Actually, I don't really know how to cook this dish but it looks simple. It is one of the famous dish avaialble in KK. I found this dish in KK, not in Tuaran though. As fas as I know, there was this shop in Tuaran shop, kinda run down shop and they operate only during lunch time. ok, whatever...

For those you planning to visit my hometown, KK. Please visit this place called Lintas Plaza/ Square. There's this shop called E SIONG coffee shop facing right in front the main road. This shop also operate like morning and before 3pm they would be closing already.

All I can say, this dish is just delicious and the freshness of the fish meat, shrimps, vege and noodles just make me goes back to it everytime I'm back home. Enjoy!

A Charade with K2OC sticker

Hey, looks what I found here. Daihatsu Charade (at least 10 years old) with a K2OC sticker on it. Haha... I spotted this car in Kota Kinabalu during CNY this year.

Sutera Harbour at night

Hey, this week I came back to my home town to have a relaxing break from work. This shot is taken at the Yatch Parking area inside Sutera Harbour resort, Kota Kinabalu. It is an amazing view but the photo was badly capture by an amatuer photographer, that's me!

I came to this resort with a friend. We were like a couple walking around the resort vacinity and enjoying the view. Sadly, she's married. Haaii... but still she's my friend and I showed her around. To my surprise, the next day my friend called me up and wanted to visit the same resort for the Sunset view... WELL, I'm so sorry to reject you because I've made a booking with my other friend at the same time.

Do you know what is this? It 's yummy food that I've photograph sometime ago. I found this special food at one of the Nasi Kandar shop in Penang. Its name is Roti John. Please don't translate this word to English, it just sounds obscene.

It was nothing but just a slice of bread with an fried egg on top of it. What makes it delicious was not the Ketchup/ Mayonis sauce but the half cooked egg yolk. Yum Yum...

If you have not taken your breakfast, this is a superb meal to start off a new day. In Malaysia, we would normally coupled this food with a cup a "Teh Tarik".

Buzzing around for a new phone

When I started this blog, I was thinking to share my experiences of 3G to everyone. After some events and incidents, I've decided to start the story from the basic first, i.e. GPRS (haha)... Let's get started with the story:

Last year (2005), my company (Maxis) gave every employee a 500 bucks (Malaysian Ringgit) of 3G handphone voucher so that we could buy one and play a bit on video call and fast speed internet browsing. So I went to few phone dealer, did some research on the Internet and finally shortlisted a the phones below:

SE= Sony Ericsson
SE K608i - This is an entry level 3G handphone. Guys who doesn't fuzzy about the memory and screen size, you should consider using this for a start of your video call discovery. I like the overall design as it is one of the lightest, and easy-to-use 3G phone. Busy people who seldom play with their handphone everyday would appreciate this one. Price wise is one of the cheapest among all 3G phones, @ RM1200, you'll get the basic phone package with travel charger, CD-ROM, wired hands-free and battery. If possible, top up a little bit, @ RM1480, you'll be getting a bluetooth hands-free (HBH-300) which the hands-free came with a car cigaretter charger.

SE W600i - This is the younger brother of W550i which got an extra feature called EDGE. There's a saying in my company website, 3G is 3x faster than EDGE and 10x faster than GPRS. So much faster is EDGE comparing to existing GPRS? So let's do some math below. Anyway, this W600i has a swivel form factor which is a hot thing in Japan now. That day, last day of 2005, I went to a MASA (Maxis Authorised Service Agent) dealer to placed a 3G phone voucher as deposit for this phone. Unfortunately, they didn't have a actual unit to test it out. So I went to the nearest Sony Showroom to check it out. I've got to tell you, the sound quality is superb. There are 2 additional speaker built into W550i and this is the first time I see a SE can perform multi-tasking. I was playing the MP3 music, sending sms, taking picture and etc all at once. There are many more features to talk about, best if you just drop by Sony Showroom to check it out. Oh yes, the price is RM1280 with the basic package and then I added a bluetooth hands-free (HBH-610). At that moment, I didn't know which hands-free model to choose. So just pick one. Btw, W600i should be available in Malaysia by January 2006 (finger-crossed). One more thing, I found our one cool accessories that I must have, the MMR-60 (FM Transmitter). This gadget can transmit music from Walkman phone to any FM Radio receiver like your car, home and even the car next to you (hahaha). As long as the receiver tuned into the frequency that the phone is transmitting, the receiver will play the sound. 1x 3G = 10x GPRS
3x EDGE = 10x GPRS
EDGE = 10x GPRS / 3
therefore, EDGE = 3.33 x GPRS

SE W900i - To me, this is an ultimate 3G + music phone above all. No other phone come closer to this extend where you get good sound, good pictures, fast Internet and etc all-in-one. How true is this, I think I have to have this phone on my hand then I could tell. Price wise, it is just launch today at Maxis Website @ RM2399. I believe the MASA dealer I went can get at least RM1-200 cheaper. Despite the size and thickness, I'm so adore on the large LCD screen and colors. Just unbelievable! (for now only, 6 months more... this phone would be outdated)

On top of all these, few of my colleague actually get Nokia N70 which will cost one of my arm (@RM2200). This is not bad because for a techie, you'll get 3G, EDGE and GPRS good picture and metal body frame all-in-one. I used to be a techie, now I try to have more fun with the gadgets I'm going to buy. Oh yes, one more thing, the W550i has a built in game called "Worm's Fort: Under Siege". One of my favourite game during my school time.

Actually before all these research, I was really considering the Samsung and Motorola phones. But too bad, these phones doesn't really appeal to me. Look at these, Samsung: D600, E760, Z500 and Motorola: E1000 & RAZR V3... Samsung is well known for its superb LCD display no matter under what condition. Motorola, I don't really know why these phones came into my mind.

After all these hassle, I learn something about decision and time.
